CONDITIONING YOUR SOIL
Bumper Crop Soil Builder can greatly improve the quality of your garden soil. It will loosen clay and other hard, compacted earths, improving drainage, planting texture, and aeration. It will help bind sandy or rocky soils to promote water retention. In all kinds of garden soils, Bumper Crop Soil Builder will make cultivation easier, provide better moisture absorption and retention, increase all-around soil aeration and provide a beneficial environment for micro-organisms.
CONDITIONING VEGETABLE GARDENS
Bumper Crop Soil Builder has been formulated especially with the vegetable gardener in mind! Before planting, spread a 2-3 inch layer of Bumper Crop Soil Builder over the area to be planted. Work it into the soil to a depth of about 6 inches. Water the area before planting to make sure the soil is moist. After planting, water again thoroughly.
CONDITIONING FLOWER GARDENS AND ROSE GARDENS
Use Bumper Crop Soil Builder for all of your in-ground flower planting. Spread a 2-3 inch layer of Bumper Crop Soil Builder. Work it into the soil to a depth of about 6 inches. Water well both before and after planting.
Planting Container, Burlapped or Bare-Root Plants
Dig a hole that is about twice as large as the size of the container. Dig the hole in the way that the sides taper outward into the soil as the hole gets deeper, somewhat like an upside down cone. Dig so that the sides of the hole are rough and not smooth; use a spading fork, if necessary, to make the sides of the hole coarse.
To minimize the settling of the plant, make the hole a bit shallower in the middle of the hole, but dig deeper around the side of the hole. Loosen the roots after removing the plant from the container or peel back the burlap from around the root ball so it will be completely covered by the back fill. Set the plant in the middle of the hole and make sure that the plant's original soil ike is about 2 inches above the soil line of the hole. If planting either a container or bare-root plant, spread the roots around the hole, making sure that the roots are not crowded against the side of the hole. Hold the plant and fill the hole with a mixture of half Bumper Crop Soil Builder and half garden soil.
CONDITIONING NEW LAWNS
Before planting, prepare the lawn site by covering it with a 2-3 inch layer of Bumper Crop Soil Builder. Bumper Crop Soil Builder into the soil to a depth of about 6 inches, making sure it is well blended. Sow the lawn seed evenly over the area according to the instructions on the lawn seed package. Cover the seed with another layer of 1/8 inch Bumper Crop Soil Builder. Next, rake the area lightly. Then water gently, but thoroughly. Keep the area moist until the seed has germinated and the grass is well up.
CONDITIONING EXISTING LAWNS
Liven up your older lawn using Bumper Crop Soil Builder. First spike thoroughly for good aeration. Next, spread a 1/2 inch layer of Bumper Crop Soil Builder over the surface. Work the mixture into the grass using a flexible lawn rake. Broadcast new grass seed onto the area according to instructions on the grass seed package. Water gently and often until the new grass seed germinates.
